Wentworth-Douglass Hospital is constructing a medical office building within the boundaries of the former Pease Air Force Base US EPA Superfund Site. While conducting an ASTM Phase I Environmental Site Assessment, VHB was informed by the Pease Development Authority that area soils contained the pesticide chlordane. VHB developed a Soil Management Plan to facilitate construction. Under the plan, chlordane-containing soils were delineated, relocated on-site, and capped with geotextile material and a clean loam layer to prevent future exposure to site occupants.
